The Tour hasn't just inspired folk to get on a bike; it also inspired the German electronic band, Kraftwerk. Their track, imaginatively titled Tour de France, was released in 1983. It reached number 22 on the UK charts and saw various versions released.
It's not to everyone's taste but it is about cycling!
If you'd like to sing along, here are the lyrics;
L'enfer du Nord Paris-RoubaixAnd here's the translation;
La Côte d'Azur et Saint Tropez
Les Alpes et les Pyrennées
Dernière étape Champs-Élysées
Galibier et Tourmalet
En danseuse jusqu'au sommet
Pédaler en grand braquet
Sprint final a l'arrivée
Crevaison sur les pavés
Le vélo vite reparé
Le peloton est regroupé
Camarades et amitié.
The hell of north Paris-Roubaix,
The Côte d'Azur and Saint Tropez
The Alps and the Pyrennees
Last stage Champs-Elysées
Galibier and Tourmalet
Dancing to the top
Bicycling at high gear
Final sprint at the finish
Flat tire on the cobblestones
The bike is repaired quickly
The peloton is regrouped
Comrades and friendship.
